Back to School Book Favorites- Gingerbread Man Loose in the School

Back to school is a week and a half away for me!  I always feel like I am never going to have everything ready and in it’s perfect place.  However, I always have some tired and true first week of school activities that never fail me!  Today, I am linking up with Ciera at Adventures of Room 129 to share my Back to School Book Favorite!

I read many of the “classic” back to school books, but one became my favorite when I taught Kindergarten 2 years ago.  The book is Gingerbread Man Loose in the School. It is such a cute book!

Here is a synopsis from good ole’ Amazon!
When a class leaves for recess, their just-baked Gingerbread Man is left behind. But he's a smart cookie and heads out to find them. He'll run, slide, skip, and (after a mishap with a soccer ball) limp as fast as he can because: "I can catch them! I'm their Gingerbread Man!"
With help from the gym teacher, the nurse, the art teacher and even the principal, a deliciously sweet ending is served up for both the Gingerbread Man and the children who made him.
Teachers often use the Gingerbread Man story to introduce new students to the geography and staff of schools, and this fresh, funny twist on the original can be used all year long. Includes a poster with fun activities!
I thought this book lends itself perfectly for taking your kiddos on a tour of the school.  This is perfect for those nervous kindergarten (or Pre-K) students who are unfamiliar with their new environment.  We read the book and then I tell the kids that I baked them gingerbread cookies that morning, but the cookies escaped!  Insert {GASP!}  Of course we have to go on a hunt!
I tell them that we need to make a wanted sign incase someone else spots him first!
…or you can use this one already made!

After we search the office, media center, computer lab, cafeteria, and playground, we end back up in the classroom.  We find a plate full of gingerbread cookies waiting!  I ask a teacher close by to slip the cookies in the room when we leave.  this gives us the opportunity to tour the school and meet the staff in a fun way!  The kids always LOVE it!

When we return, we eat our snack and complete a Gingerbread Man book (included in full product)!

I am giving away a FREEBIE that includes the author, illustrator, and characters from the book!
